Neuromuscular Dentistry
It is the art and science of using the relaxed position of the muscles of the head and neck to place the jaw into an optimal physiologic position. Thirty years of research and clinical experience have shown this technique effective in treating patients with various levels of head and neck pain. It is also use in finding the optimal jaw position before restorative dentistry and greatly increases the longevity of restorations and natural dentition.

There is hope... You can be pain free
Cathy’s story
Cathy is typical of the chronic pain patient we so often see in our office. Cathy had seen another general dentist for cosmetic veneers for her front teeth. The dentist placed full coverage crowns instead of veneers and Cathy was not happy with the results. She had expected veneers and instead received PFM crowns (those crowns that show a thin line of metal along the gum line). She then did her research and found Dr. Levy. Her initial consult was to have Dr. Levy place new metal-free crowns on her front teeth because she so disliked the current crowns. Upon examination, he noticed signs indicating much larger problems. He asked Cathy whether she suffered from headaches, her response was “almost every day and as a matter of fact, ever since I had these new crowns placed.” It took almost a year before Cathy came to believe that her headaches came from her bite and agreed to treatment for her headaches-she just wanted the cosmetics taken care of, but Dr. Levy knew that cosmetics alone would not solve Cathy’s problem.
After living with the pain for another year, Cathy finally understood and consented to treatment for her pain. Her initial therapy consisted of placement of a removable splint to correct her bite. Once Cathy was pain free and she and Dr. Levy were confident she had the proper bite, they progressed to the next stage which consisted of permanently restoring her bite to the proper position. She had porcelain crowns and onlays placed on all of her teeth and the results are a pain free lifestyle and the added benefit of that beautiful smile she originally tried to get!
